The owner of a medical billing consulting firm wanted to get an independent evaluation on how his business was performing and what could be improved. In addition to improving business performance, he wanted to spend less time working on the day-to-day activities but focus more on strategic issues, speaking engagements, and acting as the firm’s ambassador.
Griffioen Consulting conducted a comprehensive business assessment that consisted of a number of in-depth interviews with the owner as well as the entire staff. In addition, several internal surveys were distributed among the management team and staff.
The interviews and surveys were designed to capture the owner’s perspective as well as how the staff felt about what was working and what was not. Topics that were addressed included company culture, organizational structure, work assignments, job feedback, corporate direction, internal communication, and decision-making, just to name a few.
Careful analysis of the interviews and the surveys highlighted several gaps between the owner and staff about how the organization was operating.
It became clear what changes needed to be made to improve the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness in serving clients and also to allow the owner to be less involved in a hands-on, day-to-day, management role.
The key recommendation was to promote a senior employee to the general manager role. In reality, she was fulfilling this role already, but without the formal recognition, title, authority, and responsibilities.
As a result, the owner was able to step back from the hectic day-to-day operations and focus more on strategic business issues and speaking engagements.
Shortly after implementing the recommendations from the business assessment the company experienced their best sales quarter ever.Back to Case Studies
